Is your constant recurrent neck pain not getting any better?

Neck pain not getting any better? Tried massaging, acupuncture and stretching?

It may be time to check your neck joints.

Neck pain is one of the most common issues we see here at Physio Ready. One common misconception that people have is that they believe all neck pain is due to muscle tightness as they feel stiff, heavy and tight in the neck and shoulder region with neck pain. People will often try releasing their neck and shoulder region by massaging, stretching and even getting acupuncture to ease the sensation of tightness.

However neck pain and sensation of tightness is not all about the muscles. The sensation of tightness and pain can actually be coming from your joints! The neck joints and thoracic joints produce sensations of stiffness and can restrict neck movement if stiffness is present. Our physiotherapists at Physio Ready are able to access for stiffness issues in the neck and thoracic region to treat any underlying joint stiffness issues to help you get over your neck pain and regain full movement.

Specific techniques such as joint mobilisations or mobilisation with movement are used to achieve release of joint stiffness. All techniques require expertise in manual therapy and results should be instant. Of course cumulative treatments bring out better results however within the first session you should notice a change in your pain and movement range. Now muscle tightness will also need to be assessed in combination with joint stiffness. In many cases a combination of muscle tightness and joint stiffness is the cause of many neck pain.

After using manual therapy to treat joint stiffness and muscle tightness progressive strengthening exercise will be required to perform to prevent onset of joint stiffness again by strengthening areas of weakness in the neck, shoulder or thoracic region. Our physiotherapists at Physio Ready will have a simple easy to follow step by step program to help you maintain your gains and keep you neck pain free.
