Do you experience heel pain when you take your first steps in the morning?

Heel pain

You may be experiencing something called plantar fasciitis! This is a condition where the heel region of the foot experiences pain and discomfort due to the irritation of the thick band of tissue that is located under our foot which inserts from the heel bone all the way to our toes. This structure is called the plantar fascia.

Symptoms of plantar fasciitis include:

  • Heel pain early in the morning
  • Limping due to heel pain
  • Toe walking due to heel pain
  • Tenderness around the medial heel bone
  • Pain usually worse with barefoot walking on hard surfaces

There are many things that increase the likelihood of you experiencing plantar fasciitis and these include:

  • Poor ankle movement
  • Tightness in the calf muscles and foot muscles
  • Poor footwear
  • Over pronation of the foot
